			RESULT OF CALL FOR VOTES

Summary: uk.politics.misc charter change vote - Status Quo wins

Proponent: 666@hack.powernet.co.uk	Simon Gardner

The Results:

The results follow below in the following order:

1) Result
2) Particulars of the Vote
3) Votetakers comments
4) Voting and Appeal guidelines
5) Rationale & Charter

1) Result

The three options of the vote were:

Adoption of New Charter (A)
Status Quo (SQ) charter remains unchanged
Re Open Discussion (ROD) discussion reopens

STAGE ONE - Options compared to Status Quo:

Part 1: preference for adoption of new charter over Status Quo

YES = 5
NO = 30
ABSTAIN (equal preference) = 3

Adoption of new charter does not get at least 12 more preferences over
SQ than under it so fails at stage one.

Part 2: preference for Re-Open Discussion over Status Quo

YES = 10
NO = 25
ABSTAIN (equal preference) = 3

Re-opening discussion does not get at least 12 more preferences over SQ
than under it so fails at stage one.

Neither adopting the changed charter or re-opening discussion got more
votes than SQ by the required +12 so the Vote fails at stage one.

RAW PREFERENCES GRID

                      CH SQ ROD
Change Charter: [n/a] [ 5] [ 3]
Status Quo: [ 30] [n/a] [ 25]
Re-Open Discussion: [ 31] [ 10] [n/a]

In this grid, each number represents the number of votes which were cast
that preferred the option named in the number's row to the option
appropriate to the number's column. For instance, 3 votes preferred
option one (change the charter) to re-opening the discussion while 31
votes preferred reopening the discussion to option one (change the
charter).

However, as none of the options beat Status Quo by twelve or more
preferences, the Condorcet count is irrelevant and Status Quo prevails.

3) Votetakers Comments

First Apologies for the time taken to count the vote, I cracked the
back quarter off of one of my teeth and found concentrating for more
than about 10 minutes difficult.

As usual yet another simple vote with the exception that it
had to be counted by Condorcet. In this votetakers opinion if this
voting method becomes the norm (as it appears to be going the way of)
then a simpler method for counting and displaying the results has to
be found. It takes a while for some UKVoting members to get their
heads round it so god help lay people.

Again another person voted from an nym account. What is an nym account I
hear you ask

- --begin quote--
The nym.alias.net server allows you to send and receive E-mail
pseudonymously through a username of your choice on nym.alias.net. If,
for instance, you choose username <yournym@nym.alias.net>, you will be
able to send and receive E-mail at that address, and even get
fingered at that address.

The system is designed to prevent anyone, even the administrators of
nym.alias.net, from finding out the real person behind any mail alias.
If you use this service properly, an adversary will have to compromise
multiple remailers operated by different people in order to find out
your real identity.
- --end quote--

This of course makes any verification that someone isn't multiple voting
impossible, and in this votetakers opinion votes from this source should
not be allowed.

4) Voting and Appeal guidelines

This vote was conducted by a neutral third party member of UKVoting.
UKVoting is a group of independent votetakers who count votes on CFV's

5) Rationale & Charter

Charter Change for uk.politics.misc

Newsgroups Line:
uk.politics.misc	General discussion with some politics thrown in

CHARTER: uk.politics.misc.

uk.politics.misc is a group aimed at wide ranging discussion about,
well, anything at all really. Try to keep it vaguely politics-ish.

Cross posting:
is tremendous fun.

Advertising:
Is a bit of a pain, man.

Binaries:
Binaries (apart from PGP signatures) are not permitted, but directions
as to where binaries may be found are welcomed.
