========================================================================
SUMMARY:
As a result of initial discussion 3 different texts have been prepared,
with the text to be used to be determined by vote.
RATIONALE:
This is a modified version of an rfd which was first referred to control
for publication on September 8 1997 after the first announcement of the
result of the uk.misc.query+answer newsgroup. It was not published at
that time as a result of an objection being lodged, however present
circumstances dictate now as being a good time to publish.
*PLEASE NOTE* that this is *not* a charter for the newsgroup uk.misc -
that group shall remain, as a result of *this* rfd a Group Without
Charter - any attempt to formalise a charter for that group will have to
be done as part of a separate rfd.
========================================================================
PROPOSAL A:
Charter
uk.misc.* is a hierarchy for groups whose charters specifically permit
discussions on multiple topics, possibly overlapping with those of
groups placed in the more focussed parts of the uk.* namespace.
Note that it is *not* a hierarchy for newsgroups with single subjects
that simply don't fit into any of the other current hierarchies - in
these instances, it may be more appropriate to consider a different
focus for the group, or even to create a new hierarchy for it to fit
into. Indeed, in many cases where the subject of a potential group
spans more than one existing hierarchy it may be better to create 2
groups instead.
Please note that this is *not* a charter for the newsgroup uk.misc
PROPOSAL B
Charter:
The uk.misc.* hierarchy exists for newsgroups which would not fit
reasonably well under a more specific uk.hierarchy.
Please note that this is *not* a charter for the newsgroup uk.misc
PROPOSAL C
Charter:
No groups shall be created under uk.misc.*

Votetakers Moan
===============
#1
Despite a repeated warning that the domain "nospam.demon.co.uk" is
invalid for voting purposes, I still received votes From: there. Two
from Mr Lee in fact. The second vote had a note attached pointing out
the fact that the first was also from "nospam.dcu".
#2
Further ballots officiated by myself will require voters to fill in
the section "Your Real Name:" and "Your Email Address:"
