======================================================================

SUMMARY:
<uk.adverts.holidays>, a newsgroup creating a medium for British
individuals based in the UK or elsewhere, to offer activity
holidays to the UK market. This is not intended for the large
    package holiday providers.

RATIONALE:
There are many thousands of people offering accommodation both in
the UK and abroad (France, Spain, Italy, etc.) plus activities of
interest to a wide and a special interest audience. Examples are:
horseback riding, tennis, fishing, painting, swimming, on/off road
bicycling, horse racing, film/cultural festivals, cooking schools,
language schools, local cultural/historic tours, etc.

For these small businesses it is very difficult to access the
marketplace and at an affordable cost. The appropriate advertising
media; general or special interest publications, newspapers (local
& national) are very expensive, periodic and not very effective in
    reaching the potential clientele.

All too often, the advertising expenditure necessary to generate
custom, uses up most or all of the potential profit margin, thus
making the activity unviable or marginal at best.

This type of enterprise is often run by retired, semi-retired or
redundant middle-aged persons looking to create a livelihood out
of a home or holiday home along with a hobby or a professional
interest. Examples could be a language school in a country home
with accommodation, horseback riding with lessons in a vacation
home, etc. Having a newsgroup for this type of venture enables
them to access a much wider market quickly and cost effectively.

It allows people to find a holiday that is something special,
different and that offers activities they already practice or
are interested in but have never tried.

None of the existing newsgroups appear appropriate.
Examples: these do not cover the subject

        rec.travel.bed&breakfast
        rec.travel.europe
        rec.travel.marketplace
        rec.travel.misc
        soc.culture.british

THE GROUP:
    uk.adverts.holidays Adverts for non-package holidays

THE CHARTER:
This newsgroup provides a medium to bring together people looking
for non-package activity holidays, based in the UK or abroad,
together with enterprises who have the venues, structure and
    organisation to fill this need.

BINARIES:
Binaries are not permitted on this group, however references to
FTP-able material and Web URL's are welcomed.

ADVERTISING:
Short (less than 20 lines) announcements of activities/events with
amenities relevant to readers are permitted; blatant off-topic or
commercial advertising (eg: large package holiday companies) is
    not.

MODERATION:
There will be no moderator for this newsgroup.
