RESULTS:

RAW PREFERENCES GRID

             1 2 3 4 SQ ROD
  Option 1 [n/a] [ 33] [ 27] [ 30] [ 36] [ 35]
  Option 2 [ 15] [n/a] [ 17] [ 27] [ 34] [ 34]
  Option 3 [ 23] [ 36] [n/a] [ 33] [ 47] [ 46]
  Option 4 [ 22] [ 24] [ 16] [n/a] [ 45] [ 44]
Status Quo [ 16] [ 19] [ 6] [ 7] [n/a] [ 12]
       ROD [ 17] [ 19] [ 6] [ 8] [ 35] [n/a]

In this grid, each number represents the number of votes which were cast
that preferred the option named in the number's row to the option
appropriate to the number's column. For instance, 33 votes preferred
option one (upb.personals [moderated]) to option two (upb.personals) while
17 votes preferred reopening the discussion to option one (upb.personals
[moderated]).

OPPOSITE COMPARISONS GRID

             1 2 3 4 SQ ROD
  Option 1 [n/a] [ 18] [ 4] [ 8] [ 20] [ 18]
  Option 2 [-18] [n/a] [-19] [ 3] [ 15] [ 15]
  Option 3 [ -4] [ 19] [n/a] [ 17] [ 41] [ 40]
  Option 4 [ -8] [ -3] [-17] [n/a] [ 38] [ 36]
Status Quo [-20] [-15] [-41] [-38] [n/a] [-23]
       ROD [-18] [-15] [-40] [-36] [ 23] [n/a]

In this grid, each number represents the number of votes which were cast
that preferred the option named in the number's row to the option
appropriate to the number's column less the number of votes which were
cast that preferred the option named in the number's column to the option
appropriate to the number's row. For instance, 20 more people preferred
Option 1 to Status Quo than preferred Status Quo to Option 1.

As shown by all the numbers in its row in the lower grid being positive,
Option 1 (uk.people.bdsm.personals [moderated]) was preferred to all other
options and hence wins the ballot.

Votetakers Comments:

This is the largest vpte I've handled so far and it went surprisingly
smoothly, apart from a few invalid votes, two of which the voters
corrected.

As always, the Condorcet count proved to be a headache, especially as
all of the options apart from Status Quo went through to the second
stage.

RATIONALE: (including Summary of Discussion)

The newsgroup uk.people.bdsm is very successful. The charter, however,
specifically prohibits personal adverts. The newsgroup still receives many
such adverts and it appears that personals are a very popular way to use
the Internet. A UK bdsm personals group would give people a place more
suitable than the regular or worldwide personal groups to seek partners
for bdsm activities.

uk.people.bdsm.personals - this was the favourite in the straw poll held.
There is precedent for placing adverts groups outside of the adverts
hierarchy, eg uk.rec.photo.adverts and uk.local.southwest.adverts. Also
there is the possibility that in the future uk.people.bdsm may become a
larger sub-hierarchy with other groups as well as the personals and main
group.

uk.adverts.personals.bdsm - this is the current uk hierarchy area for
personal adverts including the groups uk.adverts.personals and
uk.adverts.personals.gay-les-bi

This RFD adds the new moderation info to the proposal. I think that
whether the group should be moderated or not should be voted on in the
CFV. Moderation was favoured in the straw poll held.

kept to a reasonable length (200 lines max). Sig files should be 6 lines

wish people to be able to see a picture of you put one on the web or in an
appropriate binaries newsgroup and add a pointer to your personal.

allow no crossposts, no follow-ups, no binaries, no posts over 200 lines
and no off-topic posts. Follow-ups will be set to poster. It will be
moderated by myself using robomoderation software. Should I fail in my
