(Please note that, due to the known ability of the "swen" virus to harvest addresses from news postings, all email addresses in this results posting, including the votetaker's "from" and "reply-to" addresses, are spamtrapped or munged. I regret the necessity for this, but consider these circumstances sufficiently exceptional to warrant breaking the usual rules) Summary: Creation of group 'uk.comp.security.firebrick' received 41 votes in favour and 37 against, with 3 abstentions. This fails to meet the requirement for a winning margin of 12 or greater. Therefore, the proposal fails. Voting closed at 23:59:59 BST, 19th September 2003. In this case, the winning margin did not reach this number and the proposal therefore fails. ====================================================================== INDIVIDUAL VOTE DETAILS Name Email Vote Adrian Wise adrian?adrianwise/co/uk Yes Alastair alastair_voting?hotmail/com Yes Alex alex?letmethink/co/uk Yes Alex D. What is it about "delete this line and everything above it" that is so hard to understand? Also, I had to be very generous with some extremely badly mangled ballot papers, which would not have passed any automated processing. Two votes had to be discarded under the rules prohibiting multi-voting. It should be noted that, under the current rules, *all* votes from a multi-voter must be discarded. Therefore, none of the counted votes are from the disqualified voter. ====================================================================== VOTING AND APPEAL INFORMATION This vote was conducted by a neutral third party member of UKVoting. UKVoting is a group of independent votetakers who count votes on behalf of the uk.* hierarchy and other 3rd parties. The rules under which votes for the uk.* hierarchy are taken are posted regularly to uk.net.news.announce or can be found at the following URLs: The UKVoting web pages can be found at There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted to uk.net.news.announce. Allegations of irregularity should be sent to the committee via email to: . ====================================================================== (The information in this and the following section is a copy of that provided in the CFV) RATIONALE from the last RFD The group alt.firebrick already exists for discussion of the firewall range named "Firebrick" produced by Watchfront Electronics and Andrews & Arnold. Unfortunately alt.* does not always offer the best propagation everywhere and occasionally it becomes apparent that there are problems getting some ISPs to carry the group. The product is manufactured in the UK and sells mainly to UK clients so it seems sensible to have the group based in the uk.* hierarchy where it should be well propagated. This proposal has the support of the manufacturers. ============================================================================ CHARTER This group is for discussion of issues relating to the Firebrick firewall range. This includes, but is not limited to, help with configuration, notification of new firmware releases and discussion of forthcoming products. Advertising Advertising is forbidden.
