Two ballots contained invalid addresses and one ballot acknowledgment remained undeliverable for over a week. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- RATIONALE: uk.local.cornwall There are many newsgroups in the uk.local.* hierarchy showing that there is an obvious need for local UK specific content and following the creation of uk.local.devon and uk.local.somerset it's perhaps fair that Cornwall be given the same opportunity as an individual newsgroup. Although there is a group (uk.local.southwest) that encompasses Cornwall and there are other groups in different hierarchies (soc.culture.cornish, alt.languages.cornish) there remains no single recognisable group within the uk.local.* hierarchy. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION: There was a slight change applied to the wording of the pointer to the group uk.local.southwest.adverts. Finally there was a small pointer added to potential subscribers to note the existence of uk.local.southwest. It was sad to see such off-topic nonsense creep into what was supposed to be (and indeed originally was) a sensible discussion, and I hope those that were watching don't have the impression that everyone in Cornwall has that attitude or acts in such a fashion. Personally I'd not quite expected that kind of response although it was, for want of a better word, amazing to see the discussion degrade so quickly fired by so few. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- NEWSGROUPS LINE: uk.local.cornwall The county of Cornwall, England - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARTER: uk.local.cornwall The newsgroup is intended for discussion relating to the county of Cornwall. A dedicated forum within the uk.local hierarchy easily recognisable for discussion of information, news, views and other such topics related to Cornwall. Contributions are welcome from all provided the contribution bears some relevance to Cornwall or to her people (e.g. people who live, work or study in the county or have an interest in the county). Potential subscribers should perhaps also note the existence of uk.local.southwest which includes Cornwall. Advertising Advertising is strictly forbidden, with these exceptions: Suppliers of goods and services relevant to group subject in the UK may post an invitation to visit their web site or request details. It should be of four lines or fewer and not posted more than once every 3 months. The subject line should begin "ADVERT: ", except for vacancy adverts, when it should begin "JOB: ". All other advertising may be posted in the specially created advert group within the hierarchy uk.local.southwest.adverts. Crossposting Messages posted to this newsgroup must not be cross-posted to more than a TOTAL of four uk.local.* newsgroups; these may be geographically adjacent or overlapping, or connected by the subject of the post (e.g. "a proposed house move from Thurso to Truro"). Note that the advertising of widely-available goods or services is *not* relevant in this context, and that most uk.local.* groups have restrictions on advertising, or prohibit it. Cross-posted adverts, where allowed, must meet the requirements of the charters of *all* groups involved. Binaries & Formatting Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer may be posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be used where authentication is important and should be as short as possible. Posts must be readable as plaintext. HTML, RTF and similarly formatted messages are prohibited. To see how to make your newsreader comply with this, read . Warning Anyone posting contrary to this charter may be reported to their "postmaster" and/or Service Provider. - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This vote was conducted by a neutral third party member of UKVoting.
