- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
VOTETAKER'S COMMENTS:

An unexceptional and straightforward vote. One voter could not be
verified but, in spite of their failure to respond to requests for
further details, is included as a valid vote because the result
remains unaffected.

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
RATIONALE:

A discussion forum regarding Personal Video Recorders (PVR) available
to the UK market. There is no place dedicated to the emergence of UK
PVRs like TiVo or Sky+ and other PVR systems being developed. Many
questions are posted to uk.media.tv.misc, uk.media.tv.sky &
uk.tech.digital-tv about these systems.

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWSGROUPS LINE:

uk.tech.tv.video.pvr Hard disk-based Personal Video Recorder (PVR) systems

- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CHARTER:

Technical discussions of hard disk based Personal Video Recorder (PVR)
systems (devices that monitor and record programming that the user
watches and is capable of tasks like pausing live TV, recording entire
TV series from an electronic programme guide automatically, giving
fast and easy access to programming the user has requested be recorded
and may even be capable of suggesting or recording programming the
user may like based on what they have watched in the past) available
to the UK market, TiVo and Sky+ for example. Topics may include:
comparisons between systems, bugs, future software and hardware
releases, manual hardware and software updates and system
troubleshooting (this is not an exhaustive list). Conversation
specific to programme content is off-topic and should be directed
elsewhere, e.g. to the uk.media.tv* newsgroups.

ADVERTISING

Advertising is forbidden, with these exceptions: Suppliers of goods
and services relevant to PVRs in the UK may post, not more than once a
month, an invitation of four lines or fewer, to visit their web site
or request details. The subject line must begin "ADVERT: "

BINARIES & FORMATTING

Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are
forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a
pointer may be posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be
used where authentication is important and should be as short as
possible.

WARNING

Anyone posting contrary to this charter may be reported to their
"postmaster" and/or Service Provider.
