Summary: Creation of group 'uk.media.tv.us-spoilers' received 29 votes in favour and 20 against, with 2 abstentions. This fails to meet the requirement for a winning margin of 12 or greater. Therefore, the proposal fails. In this case, the winning margin did not reach this number and the proposal therefore fails. ====================================================================== INDIVIDUAL VOTE DETAILS Name Email Vote Andrew Cameron tags?tags2k@oc@ku Yes Anthony Naggs amn?ubik@demon@oc@ku Yes Anthony R. A minor typo on the CFV meant that there was some confusion over the closing date of the ballot, so the later of the two possible options was taken as correct. However, there were no votes in the last couple of days anyway, so it didn't really matter. ====================================================================== VOTING AND APPEAL INFORMATION This vote was conducted by a neutral third party member of UKVoting. UKVoting is a group of independent votetakers who count votes on behalf of the uk.* hierarchy and other 3rd parties. The rules under which votes for the uk.* hierarchy are taken are posted regularly to uk.net.news.announce or can be found at the following URL: The UKVoting web pages can be found at There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted to uk.net.news.announce. Allegations of irregularity should be sent to control@usenet.org.uk. ====================================================================== (The information in this and the following section is a copy of that provided in the CFV) RATIONALE Mention "Spoilers" to anyone in a uk.media.tv group and you're likely to get anything but a neutral reaction. Information about the US Fall TV schedules is met with a wide range of reactions, from indifference to all-out paranoia. Many groups are discussing how the prospect of new shows some three to six months ahead of any terrestial or digital broadcast will affect the makeup of their future postings, and whether existing spoiler protection will cover what is likely to be a wide range of misdemeanours. I have for some time, with a number of other individuals, considered the possibility of creating a group inside the media.tv hierarchy which would allow a general area for the discussion of all manner of "spoilers": whether they be the episodes themselves (downloads of US eps from peer to peer software or other sources isn't condoned by the proponent), information from US newsgroups or "spoiler" sites like Aint it Cool or US magazine and TV interviews. I believe the time is now right to formally propose such a Group. ============================================================================ CHARTER uk.media.tv.us-spoilers is for the discussion of any and all "spoilers" appertaining to US TV programmes. A "spoiler" is defined as a piece of information that could spoil the enjoyment of a UK viewer who has not yet seen the TV show in question. All forms of spoilers are welcome: please however restrict the information to US television programmes and not other US entertainment media. To clearly define what information an individual may wish to read, the tagging of Subject: posts is VERY important. Please CLEARLY identify what show you are referring to in your post by putting the name of that show in the Subject: header, in an abbreviated form. For instance: [BTVS] Buffy [ANG] Angel [ST:ENT] Enterprise [24] 24 [SFU] Six Feet Under [SPO] The Sopranos [FF] Firefly [BoP] Birds of Prey [SMV] Smallville [DC] Dawson's Creek are some examples: as new shows are discussed appropriate abbreviations can be decided. As it is entirely possible that a viewer of "Smallville" may only be interested in their own shows spoilers and may not want to know what's happening in the latest episode of "24" DO NOT PLACE SPOILERS in the "Subject: " field. The addition of Spoiler or Courtesy Space is purely at the discretion of the individual poster: it is assumed that if a person is subscribing to this group they will understand the risks they are taking in doing so. Cross-posting between this and any group whose episodes are being discussed is FORBIDDEN. Advertising Advertising is forbidden, with these exceptions: Suppliers of goods and services relevant to group subject in the UK may post an invitation to visit their web site or request details. It should be of four lines or fewer and not posted more than once every 3 months. The subject line should begin "ADVERT: ". Personal and "fan" websites with links to Spoiler material are also welcome to post details: preferably four lines or fewer, and no more than once a week. Binaries & Formatting Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer may be posted. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should US episodes be posted to the Group: again, there are specific binaries groups and FTP sites for such purposes. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP)may be used where authentication is important and should be as short as possible. Posts must be readable as plain text. HTML, RTF and similarly formatted messages are prohibited. To see how to make some common newsreaders comply with this, read . Warning Anyone posting contrary to this charter may be reported to their "postmaster" and/or Service Provider. =========================================================================== -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.1i Charset: noconv iQCVAwUBPfHoqmOfGXkh8vHZAQGkZQP8CDqxH3LYXRGC7uCpGa0qnRVhZ2FGnGaw qghfneMw2peHF2CgLVFtKs1ugp4cR7OkwE7C2fPKuCsXPbE+X1LYCrsTKhTYhKLA QjVvDis2591UQhu7avfQ3v5emEPJw4U1epHH3rLNX5XauDhMI6HGYVp4fHP6QRRA f5YqDvFM5qw= =pAO5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
