This includes not only radio programmes directed at a global audience but also those radio programmes intended for specific regions, e.g Africa, South Asia, etc. Initial posts not related to the BBC World Service output are not allowed; however, discussions that range more widely are not discouraged. Commercial and personal advertising is forbidden, unless as part of a signature in a topical post. Even then, the advertising should be kept to a reasonable level such that it does not become the main feature of the post. Announcements, not exceeding 20 lines in length, of relevant events are allowed. Announcements of forthcoming programmes are allowed but must not infringe the copyright(s) of schedule publishers; e.g., notification of a single programme would be acceptable: listings of several programmes would not. Such announcement should be accompanied with a "SPOILER: " or "PREVIEW: " tag in the subject header - see below. Some radio programmes of the World Service are normally repeated at different times in order give people in different time zones the opportunity to listen at a convenient time. If a post contains information on an entertainment programme that has been broadcast for one zone but not yet for another, the subject header should include the word "SPOILER: ". If, however, the programme is informative in nature, the header should include the word "PREVIEW: ". Ultimately, the poster should exercise good judgement in deciding how to post information on a programme so as not to detract from its enjoyment by others who may not have had the opportunity to listen to it yet. Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or FTP site to which a pointer may be posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP) may be used where authentication is important and should be as short as possible. Posts made to the newsgroup must be readable as plaintext. HTML, RTF and similarly formatted messages are prohibited. To see how to make your newsreader comply with this, read
