In one of these cases the voter sent separate mail to indicate a local problem and then re-submitted the ballot, which was then acked successfully. In the second case, the domain (whinwhistle.freeserve.co.uk) had no MX recordnor a A record, causing the ack to bounce. No communication was received from the voter about the lack of acknowledgement, so this ballot was not included in the count. The domain was re-checked at the end of the voting period and was still not contactable. ====================================================================== Votetaker's Comments The mailing list proved to be a serious problem in that the first CFV did not get sent there because the list is closed (I don't know if this was the case at the time of the RFD). Once I discovered this, I joined yahoo myself and subbed to the list to send the 2nd CFV there. After consultation with other members of UKVoting, I extended the voting period by an extra week (at this point, there was only just over one week left of the original CFV period, and the problems were not the fault of the group members). The CFV sent to the mailing list specificed a revised ballot closure of 23:59:59 on Friday 28th June. In the event, no ballots were received during the additional period. There was a typo in the CFV which specified Thu 19th June as the end date, whereas Thursday was the 20th. The 20th was used. ====================================================================== Voting and Appeal Guidelines This vote was conducted by a neutral third party member of UKVoting. UKVoting is a group of independent votetakers who count votes on behalf of the uk.* hierarchy and other 3rd parties. The rules under which votes for the uk.* hierarchy are taken are posted regularly to uk.net.news.announce or can be found at the following URL: The UKVoting web pages can be found at There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted to uk.net.news.announce. Allegations of irregularity should be sent to control@usenet.org.uk. ====================================================================== NEWSGROUPS LINE - --------------- uk.rec.running Running, jogging, racing and related issues RATIONALE - --------- The only newsgroup current aimed solely at runners is currently rec.running. This group is an international forum (with a largely transatlantic orientation) and many of the messages on this group are not relevant to UK runners. Differences in language, geography and culture also make this group a less than satisfactory home for UK posters on running and running related subjects. There is a mailing list that currently provides a forum for discussion for UK runners but I feel that a Usenet group would be a valuable addition. I would like to propose the creation of a new group within the UK hierarchy. The proposed name for the group (uk.rec.running) has been chosen for several reasons. Firstly, any runner currently familiar with the group rec.running might reasonably expect a uk group to follow the same nomenclature and the addition of "uk" would be anticipated (and sought for by new subscribers). Secondly. whilst some runners might consider the uk.sport.athletics hierarchy a better home, I would maintain that the majority of runners and joggers consider their activity a "recreation" and, as such, would probably search the "rec" hierarchy first for a newsgroup relevant to their activity. Thirdly, it is the aim of the group to be as inclusive (in terms of the capabilities of the runners) as possible and I feel the inclusion of the group within the "athletics" hierarchy would intimidate many new runners who would not consider themselves "athletes" CHARTER - ------- This group is for running-related discussions which are primarily of interest to joggers and runners in the United Kingdom (Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland) and the Irish Republic. Valid topics include all aspects of running/jogging (basic fitness, training, racing, injury management, equipment, clothing etc.) Advertising Announcements of events relevant to the newsgroup are permitted. Commercial advertising would be strictly prohibited. Acceptable use Binaries are expressly *not* permitted in this group; however, references to files on FTP sites or binaries newsgroups, and WWW links which are relevant to the readership are welcome and encouraged. Cross-posting to/from other *relevant* newsgroups is allowed. However, "spamming" and excessive cross-posting are not allowed. Violation of these rules may well be a violation of the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Format All posts must be in plain text; HTML and other types of formatted text are forbidden. Posting URLs of relevant Internet sites, where appropriate, is encouraged. With the explicit exception of cryptographic signatures (eg, PGP), all encoded binaries are forbidden. Forbidden binaries include, but are not limited to: pictures, sounds, word processor documents, executable programs and "business cards". Warning Anyone posting advertisements, binaries or other material contrary to this charter may be reported to their ISP or postmaster.
