SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION:

The RFD was posted on 30/6/1999 to uk.net.news.announce,
uk.net.news.config, alt.acting, rec.arts.theatre.misc,
rec.arts.theatre.plays, rec.arts.theatre.stagecraft and
rec.arts.theatre.musicals

A discussion then followed in uk.net.news.config until 10/7/1999. One
(apparently) North American poster stated that she would be sad to
lose British posters to ratm. Follow ups to this post pointed out that
the new group would not be exclusive, just a forum from the UK
perspective. Six other posters offered support. Questions about
possible future sub groups were raised and answered by myself pointing
out that it would be best to get the main (base) group established
first. Future sub groups could be formed after suitable RFD processes
as and when there was a demand.
As there had been no hostile postings I requested a fast track on July
12th which was turned down by the committee on 23/7/1999.

NEWSGROUPS LINE
uk.culture.arts.theatre The discussion of theatre in the UK

PROPONENT.
Jeremy McNeill jezza@hotwells.freeserve.co.uk

RATIONALE.
The UK theatrical community has an ever increasing presence
online. The existing groups in the rec.arts.theatre.* hierarchy
are inevitably heavily dominated by North American postings.
The time has come to create a forum for discussion of theatre
in the UK.

CHARTER.
uk.culture.arts.theatre is for the discussion of all matters
pertaining to professional and amateur theatre in the UK.
These would include management, promotion, direction, casting,
acting, agents, stage management, plays, musicals, play writing
and other topics. If traffic becomes heavy then subgroups may
be created.

Advertising is forbidden, with these exceptions: Suppliers
of goods and services relevant to professional and amateur
theatre in the UK may post, not more than once every 3 months,
an invitation of four lines or fewer, to visit their web site or
request details. The subject line should begin ADVERT: except for
vacancy adverts, when it should begin JOB: or if relevant CASTING:

Encoded binaries (e.g. pictures, compressed files, etc.) are
forbidden. Such material belongs on a web or ftp site to which
a pointer may be posted. Cryptographic signatures (e.g. PGP)
may be used where authentication is important and should be as
short as possible.

Posts must be readable as plain text. HTML, RTF and similarly
formatted messages are prohibited. To see how to make your news
reader comply with this, read http://www.usenet.org.uk/ukpost.html
